2007 Multi-Agency Search & Rescue Drill

On Friday, October 4, 2007, members of the STAR Team and the Assistant Shift Supervisors of the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, and Lancaster County EMS participated in a Search & Rescue Drill at Camp Treetops in Van Wyck (Northern Lancaster County).

The scenario was that an Alzheimer's Patient from a neighboring county had been reported missing on the previous night.  That morning, employees of Camp Treetops located his vehicle abandoned deep inside the camp and they notified the Sheriff's Office.

The Star Team was then activated to begin a search and rescue operation.  Within an hour of the STAR Team deploying, the Alzheimer's patient was located.  STAR Team Medics then began treating the patient and he was carried to a nearby trail where he was loaded on a John Deere Gator and transported to an awaiting ambulance.

Most of the equipment that was used was purchased through grants provided by the US Department of Homeland Security.
